World Champion visits Swarovski Crystal Worlds
The reigning Women’s Individual Time Trial World Champion, Annemiek van Vleuten of the Netherlands, completed a brief training camp in Innsbruck-Tirol at the start of this week, including a recon of the courses which will feature at the 2018 UCI Road World Championships. Between training rides the Dutch rider found time to visit the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Austria and also the start location for the Women Elite Individual Time Trial on 25 September 2018.
Crystal met carbon earlier this week as the reigning Women’s Individual Time Trial World Champion and silver medallist in the Individual Pursuit at the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, Annemiek van Vleuten, visited Innsbruck-Tirol ahead of the UCI Road World Championships in September. The 35-year-old rider from team Mitchelton-Scott, who is among the favourites for the title in the Women Elite Road Race, was keen to play down expectations during her visit to the Hall-Wattens region just outside Innsbruck. “I don’t have any big expectations,” commented the Dutch rider. “My goal is simply to go into the World Championships in the best possible shape. Obviously the fact that the course suits me gives me extra motivation.” After her brief stay in Innsbruck-Tirol she will be heading straight to Valencia for a training camp before the women’s edition of the Tour of the Basque Country (Emakumeen Bira) begins in May, followed by the Giro d´Italia Femminile (Giro Rosa) in July. With such a packed schedule in the coming months, van Vleuten enjoyed the chance to relax a little at the Swarovski Crystal Worlds, which will host the start of the Women Elite Individual Time Trial in September: “This is my first time in Tirol. The scenery as we were flying in yesterday was breathtaking and the landscape here in Wattens is fantastic. We are going to experience great World Championships – it’s so beautiful.”
